It's amazing to read about the Jews and their desire to build the next temple. The first two temples were destroyed. Their purpose was to house the spirit of God so that God would have a dwelling among man. If it were not for the Islamic buildings now at the temple mount, the Jews would have already built it. They already have the model setup, corner stone acquired and have sourced the other materials they'll need to finish it.
Many Christian end-time scholars point to wording in the book of Revelation that indicates to them, that there must be a 3rd temple before Christ returns. Revelation speaks of an abomination that is setup in a wing of the temple. (which by the way happened physically in the second temple too.)
It is my opinion from studying scripture that there will be no 3rd physical temple (until the one in heaven is descended), or if there is one, the Holy Spirit will not indwell it.
Consider this.
The Old Testament = Old Covenant = Old Agreement. In the old way, the temple was setup to be a housing for God to dwell among us. In the New Testament (New Agreement), The body is the temple of God. (1 Cor 3:17, 2 Cor 6:16) Jesus also said "One greater than the temple is here (Mt 12:6), which was a way of saying that we should worship the spirit not the temple. To further get his point across, Jesus also claimed to be a temple.(John 2:20-21). We are also told to take care of the body in many places in the Bible.
Hold that thought for just a minute. Let's add to it.
I've studied the book of Revelation a lot. Some of it contains symbolism and some is literal. However just as much is also discussing what really goes on in the spirit world where Angels fight against demons. The Bible says,
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."
Angels vs Demons. This is a daily struggle.
So if the 3rd temple is the body, and Revelation speaks of an abomination that causes desolation that is set up on a wing of the temple, this means that in the end times, the love of many will grow cold, because mankind has chosen flesh over spirit, and his ways have become even more wicked that before. The Holy Spirit has probably been removed at this point and the demons take over. Fleshly desires will be the prevailing mindset. Divorce, Adultery, abortion, sexual disease, and more will be at all time highs during the period of tribulation. Murder, theft and other lawlessness will increase until the end.

A question from this you need to consider. If the bible discusses demons in the past, and demons in the future, why have you not considered demons in the present?
