Another Catholic Embarrassment

May 12, 2006 / by bible-prophecy

I can't tell you how many times I've heard "Catholicism never changes."

If it wasn't enough with the Catholics adding the concepts of purgatory, Mary worship, and praying to the dead along the way at different points of time, now we read that their concept of "limbo" may be abolished. Hey folks, it either exists or it doesn't!

It's amazing to me that the Pope and the entire Catholic church decided long ago that they were everything to Christianity and that they have the power to decide what exists and does not exist in the spirit world. Anyone that sets themselves up as "we have all the answers and everyone else is stupid" needs to be avoided.

What they do have is the power of the next crusade, which they're about to take up with Germany to take over Jerusalem from the Jews and Palestinians/Iranians/Syrians, just like they did before.

Israel will attack Iran in the next few months. They've been getting shipments of bunker busting bombs from the US now for quite some time. This will probably cause the big holy war in Jerusalem with the Palestinians and hired helpers bringing an all out attack. Then look for the EU and Germany specifically to get involved. Keep a special eye on the German Pope during this time.

I ask the question: How many churches were directly founded by Christ himself? Scripture is clear: "You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against her." (Mt. 16:18) There is one Christian church; one community of believers in Christ. Attempts to divide the body of Christ are wrong and doomed to fail. Christ prayed for unity among His followers, "that they may become completely one." (John 17:23) . Granted this may seem like a cop-out on my part to go to verses in the Bible that are often used to support the historical primacy of the Catholic Church. And I will admit that the term Catholic, stemming from the Greek kata+holos (with respect to the whole), came into use centuries after the Lord's death. But we Catholics, like non-Catholics are merely human. We make mistakes, as Christ knows we have, do, and will. The Lord expects us to repent, to turn to Him, and to grow apart from sinful tendencies. This process of growth was in place even before Christ came.

In another place in the Bible, salvation is described as an inheritance "that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you." (1 Peter 1:4) The text continues: "In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith- being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire- may be found to result in praise and glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed." (1 Peter 1:6-7)

In all these passages, God's will for unity among His people and for unity with Himself is revealed. Division among Christians is contrary to God's will. St. Paul warns against it in 1 Corinthians 1:12-15.

On the part of the Catholic Church, we do not worship Mary. She is the mother of God. Her womb was chosen by God to be the perfect vessel to bear Our Lord. This is God's miracle, not Mary's. Because of it, generations of people will call Mary blessed. (cf. Luke 1:48)

We do not pray to the dead. We believe in eternal life and hope for it to be granted to our loved ones who depart this world. If one is in heaven, they are alive eternally, as those on earth are alive temporally. Therefore, prayer with them is allowed and even encouraged.

The examination of the non-doctrinal Catholic understanding of limbo (What happens when children die before they can be baptized and before they commit a sin? May these people go to heaven?) is just an example of the Church's growth over time as a community. The Church is administered on earth by human beings. Individuals are not inerrant and the Church is not expected to have all the answers, but the Holy Spirit protects the doctrine of the community that tries genuinely to follow God's path. It is possible to follow God's path though members of a community err. Having Judas Iscariot in their midst did not stop the Aposles from being Apostles. There have been many Apostles (Pope Benedict XVI among them) since Jesus' time, and many Judases. Yet the Church persists and is strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

It is critical not to use the Bible to predict doom and gloom, or ephemeral happiness either. Rejoice in God's works that can be seen, and do not fear that which cannot be seen. "God is love" (1 John 4:16). God's love is protective. On the other hand, we have the gifts of free will and of intellect that must surpass literal scriptural interpretation. Live in Christ and do not fear His second coming nor any events until then. That would be contrary to the Bible's purpose.

You do know that that is only one way to intrepret that verse right? Plus that definition doesn't hold up to what the rest of the bible says. Put that verse in context:
    16:16
Simon Peter said, "You're the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
    16:17
Jesus came back, "God bless you, Simon, son of Jonah! You didn't get that answer out of books or from teachers. My Father in heaven, God himself, let you in on this secret of who I really am.
    16:18
And now I'm going to tell you who you are, really are. You are Peter, a rock. This is the rock on which I will put together my church, a church so expansive with energy that not even the gates of hell will be able to keep it out.

They're talking about who the people say Jesus is. Peter replies. Then Jesus tells Peter who he is probably pointing at him or embracing him. (The greek word for rock there can also mean pebble or some kind of stone that is smaller that Jesus, who is often referred to as a stumbling stone.) Then Jesus points back to himself and continues with "This is the rock....
16:19 then goes on to tell us what kind of church Jesus will have, not Peter.
There are all kinds of peter problems in the bible. Peter had to be corrected by Paul about his religion. Peter denied Christ 3 times after this event we're discussing above. Peter went to the Jews preaching the Gospel, not the Gentiles.

Mary cannot be the 'mother of God' as you put it. God always existed and was not formed from anything. She was the biological earthly mother of Jesus the human, not Jesus the God. She was nothing more than an instrument of God, just like Billy Graham or anyone else that carries out the will of God. Catholics put more emphasis on her than Jesus. How many churchs, buildings and other things have somthing about the holy mother of god, or st mary or somthing of the like stamped on it? I've never seen the Jesus building, but I'm not Catholic either.

Prayer with the dead is only allowed by the catholics that don't follow the bible. We're told specifically not to do this.

It sounds like you do not follow the bible at all, given your last paragraph. Why even have it? The bible does tell us that the job of the Holy Spirit, whom is greater that Jesus as he said, is to teach and train us on the ways of God. If you get your instruction from a Pope or David Koresh or anyone else, you are doomed to fail. You have a relationship with the pope, not Jesus. "didn't we cast out demons in your name...." and Jesus will say on that day "depart from me, I never knew you.".

Your explanation of Limbo is as laughable as the entire topic. Tomorrow will you tell us that neither hell nor heaven exists any longer? I mean why not, if you have the power to decide. Send the murderers to hell and let the rest of us into heaven. Come on, do it! You can't. It ain't up to you. Limbo either exists or it doesn't. God's not making up stuff along the way just because we want him to.

not that he's evil or anything. But that he may enter into an agreement with the EU, who has a German leader. That German connection is strong.
